Handmade Felt by Jamie Lewis...

Felt is formed from animal fibres, usually wool, through the combination of moisture, heat and friction, all of which cause their tiny scales to lock irreversably together. It's the oldest manmade textile, thought to have been discovered when people filled their leather boots with sheep's wool to protect themselves from blisters - the sweat, warmth and movement of the feet caused the wool to felt, resulting in felt socks when the boots were removed. As a non-woven textile, felt cannot be torn and bag forms can be made without the need for seams. See Ethics to learn more about Jamie's approach to work.

Tea Cosies...

Felted wool is an excellent insulator, that's why we use it to insulate our roofs. Exploiting this quality Jamie has created simple Tea Cosies, handfelted from either natural Blue Faced Leicester, Moorit Shetland or white Merino wool with a dyed Merino spiral detail and loop for lifting. Tea Cosies are lined with brown or taupe cotton sheeting as used in satchels and are priced at £30 each

Spotty Purses...

Handfelted from tiny balls of dyed Merino and white Merino fleece. £12 each - Please state if button or popper is preferred.

Jamie's Felt Zoo...

100% felt animals are handfelted from dyed and natural wool into hollow animal shape then stuffed with Jamie's own felt offcuts, donated fleeces and old, shrunk or holey wool clothes. They're sewn up with wool and then squeezed and rubbed into their final shapes in hot soapy water before getting their eyes and other details attached with more wool and washed in the machine.
